I first met Charles and Diana on the day that Charles proposed at the Masonic Temple in Alexandria, VA in September 2016. I got to see them again in May 2017 when we took their engagement photos. I talked to Karyn, Diana’s mom, multiple times on the phone over the months leading up to the wedding. When the big day arrived, I felt like I was on the way to the wedding of special friends. Which is one of the things about this job that I love! I love my couples but I love getting to know their families too.
August 6, 2017 was absolutely perfect. The sun was shining, the air was clear and cool (so unlike August in the DMV), and there was no humidity…we joked that Charles’ family brought their San Diego weather with them. Diana’s father, Captain Stancy, looked dashing in his dress blues as he escorted his lovely daughter down the aisle toward her groom. Her gorgeous veil trailed behind her and Charles had tears in his eyes. The ceremony in the beautiful Old Post Chapel on Fort Meyer was full of laughter and joy including a precious moment when Charles, overcome with love for his gorgeous bride, tried to kiss her before the appointed time and she had to tell him no. It was very sweet and funny! Afterwards the sun sparkled and glowed and a light breeze blew through the trees as we took portraits. It couldn’t have been a more perfect day for this beautiful couple.
The reception in the elegant Fort Meyer Officer’s Club was lovely with sparkling chandeliers, delicious food, a beautiful cake and meaningful toasts. Everyone had a wonderful time dancing the night away. I loved seeing Charles’ and Diana’s grandparents on the dance floor. Diana is a dancer herself and comes from a family of dancers. The Stancy’s and Corrells know how to party! Finally, the guests sent the new Mr. and Mrs. Stancy off in a shower of sparkles and cheers of best wishes.
Charles and Diana, thank you for the honor of knowing you and allowing me to be there for so many special moments in your relationship. Being at your wedding was certainly a highlight of my summer and I wish you all the best in the days and years to come. XOXO
