Paul + Carey | Married 9.26.20

Paul and Carey’s wedding on September 26, 2020 was stunning. In a time when everything about life felt uncertain for everyone (thank you pandemic!), it was extra meaningful to watch two people come together with their closest friends and family to celebrate their love and commitment to one another. Though the day was a little cool and drizzly, it didn’t stop Carey from having the wedding of her dreams. All of the details came together so perfectly. From the spectacular hand-made wooden flowers, to Carey’s gorgeous dress, to the incredible grounds at Gramercy Mansion, to Paul and Carey’s adorable hounds…it was all what dreams are made of! Having also photographed Carey’s sister’s wedding, it was so fun for me to be back among friends – I love their family! It was an honor to be able to capture this incredible day for them. Happy 1 Year Anniversary to a beautiful and fun loving couple! Here’s to many many more.

Liam + Elizabeth | Maryland Backyard Wedding

2020 started with a bang and as we all know it pretty much went downhill from there. It was a crazy year for couples planning to get married and by early March uncertainty was the name of the game. Couples had to add questions to their lists like “will we still be in lockdown?”, “will family be able to travel”, “how many people can we have at the ceremony?”, “will we have to wear masks?” “will my venue even be open?” “what if one of us gets Covid?” and on and on. Needless to say it was a stressful time for couples and vendors alike as we all tried to navigate these uncharted waters as best we could. Many couples opted to postpone their wedding all together, some chose to just go to the courthouse and others decided to trim things down to meet Covid restrictions and go ahead with it anyway, maybe  having a larger celebration in 2021 to make up for it.

Liam and Ellie and their families were looking forward to their June wedding in Harper’s Ferry at St. Peter’s with the reception celebration at the Bavarian Inn following. But as things unfolded around the country and the world, it soon became clear that this was not going to be possible. Liam is from upstate New York and most of his friends and family would need to travel to Maryland for the wedding. The venue unfortunately had to remain closed over their date and gatherings in general were restricted to very small numbers. They were faced with a decision – to get married but on a much smaller scale, or wait until the following June. They both were graduating from UMD in May and Ellie had a job lined up in Georgia while Liam had plans to attend grad school following the wedding. In the end, they decided with their families to go for a small family backyard wedding with the ceremony at Ellie’s church (St. Paul’s in Damascus). It was sad that most of their extended family and friends would not be able to attend but these two were ready to be married and move on with their life together. All the more reason to have beautiful photos to share afterwards!

I respect any decision that a couple makes but I was so happy that Liam and Ellie decided to go for it! It turned out to be the sweetest day…so perfect and special. I don’t think it could have been any better. What made it more special for me is that Ellie’s family (the McFarlands) are our neighbors. We live on a street full of wonderful people and while they couldn’t attend the wedding or the reception, there was a parade down our street after the ceremony with Ellie and Liam sitting on the back of Mr. McFarland’s convertible and all of the neighbors came out to blow bubbles and wish them well. It was small town living at it’s best! The parade ended with a stop at our “famous” local ice cream shop (Jimmie Cone) on the way back to the McFarland house. The McFarland’s had set up a reception area in their garage complete with linens, flowers, a cake and slideshow. Outside their yard was the perfect backdrop for a family celebration of young love. The patio served as the dance floor, patio tables held yummy appetizers and the family chickens proved to be a popular visiting spot. There was so much love, joy and laughter and while Ellie looked gorgeous and Liam so dapper, it was such a comfortable and relaxed time. The day had all the elements of a beautiful wedding just on a very intimate scale and it was perfect. I am so happy for Jerry and Megan and honored that they asked me to capture this wonderful day for their daughter (who I’ve known since she was a little girl!). Liam’s parents and family (the Smiths) were also lovely to meet and get to know. It makes all the difference going into marriage knowing you have a strong family to support you and Liam and Ellie have just that as they embarked on their new adventure as husband and wife and head out into the world to make their mark. 2020 may have thrown some shade, but this wedding proved that it couldn’t get us down!

Chris + Erin | Virginia Wedding Photography | Riverside on the Potomac

Of course every couple is incredibly happy on their wedding day but sometimes there is joy that radiates in an extra special way. Chris and Erin were one of those couples. Every time they looked at each other on that late September afternoon, they were smiling like “I can’t believe this is finally happening!”

After shooting some detail shots of the ceremony location and bridesmaids and groomsmen, Chris and Erin had a First Look. Annette and I were able to capture some precious moments between them as Chris saw Erin for the first time in her dress – she was absolutely stunning – and the joy and excitement between them was undeniable. Neither could stop smiling. The charming cabin in the woods, beautiful flower gardens, and vintage car on the lawn provided the perfect compliment to their portraits. Though the skies looked ominous as the time for the ceremony approached no one seemed particularly worried.

The forecast had showed maybe a passing sprinkle but nothing more. Well….that quickly changed as a sprinkle turned into real rain. But the guests didn’t seem phased as umbrellas popped up and everyone huddled together chatting as it passed over. Within minutes after it stopped, the chairs were wiped down, the guests were seated and everything continued as planned, leaving behind those moody skies that I personally love. After a lovely ceremony with laughter and a few happy tears, the guests headed to the lower level of the venue for cocktails while we finished up portraits. It was important to Chris and Erin to be able to join their friends and family for Cocktail Hour so it was wonderful that they had already had most of their portraits finished before the ceremony after their First Look (side note to future brides ;).

Riverside on the Potomac is an incredible venue with so many pockets of beauty for photos and the barn is one of the prettiest I have worked in: elegant and rustic at the same time. The cheery sunflower bouquets by Blossom & Basket in Mt. Airy were the perfect compliment to the setting and looked stunning against the blue and gray of the bridal party! Maria from Vida Events did such a great job coordinating everything and keeping everything running smoothly. Despite that one passing shower, it was a perfect day and the new Mr. and Mrs. Coletta were simply glowing with happiness.

Chris and Erin, I am so honored to have been a part of your wedding! May the love and joy you felt on that day continue to light up your life as you look forward to a beautiful future together! XO

Mark + Aimee | Frederick Wedding Photography | Walker’s Overlook

Mark and Aimee are kind, thoughtful and intentional. I could see this when I first met them and heard the story of how they fell in love.  It continued to be evident in the way they planned their wedding day. Of course the wedding was all about them, but they wanted to make sure that their guests were having a great time too and thought of everything from fans and water bottles during the ceremony (because as it turned out, it was pretty sunny and warm on that late September day!), a piñata for the kids while the wedding party took photos, a S’mores station, a hilariously fun game during the reception that everyone enjoyed, the goodies bags guests could stuff with cookies and treats to take home and even a mini concert by 3 of the groomsmen who all played cellos during cocktail hour. I mean really, they thought of everything!! But that’s just the kind of people Mark and Aimee are. Serious about each other and their commitment and serious about loving God and the people in their lives well. It was such a joyful day!

Walker’s Overlook provided the perfect backdrop for all of Aimee’s details – the little jars and lanterns hanging from the beautiful tree behind the ceremony, the delicate yellow and periwinkle flowers by Wildflower Weddings, the lovely ceremony programs that matched the flowers, the donut wall in the reception, great music provided by Shew-sical Entertainment…and a few things we couldn’t have planned like the stunning sunset after dinner…all so gorgeous!

Mark and Aimee, I know God has wonderful things in store for you as a couple! It was an honor to be part of your day and to capture these precious moments for you. XO

Christopher + Kayla | Baltimore Wedding Photography

Christopher and Kayla are some of the sweetest and most humble people you will meet. You would not be aware that between them they are extremely smart and successful in their professional fields. They are joyful, peaceful and kind. The things that are most important to them: their faith, family, helping others and deep friendships are the things that brought them together and when these things are at the core of a relationship, it’s hard to imagine that their union will be anything but beautiful. One of my favorite things about their wedding day (besides being so happy for them both) was hearing their priest talk about them during the homily and their friends talk about them during the toasts. What came through were the things that I already mentioned in such a sincere way that anyone listening couldn’t doubt that it is true! This is truly a special couple!

I was so honored to be part of their wedding day. It was an absolutely perfect summer day – not too hot or humid, no rain, light breezes, flowers in the height of bloom, butterflies flittering by on the breeze…. They were married in the beautiful St. Wenceslaus Church in Baltimore followed by a lovely al fresco reception at Belmont Manor. I overheard a guest comment that it was like being on a Jane Austen set and I totally agree. It was so romantic and idyllic! Looking back over these photos brings it all back – God truly blessed them with the perfect day.

Being with friends and family were a huge priority for Kayla and Chris and they enjoyed most of the cocktail hour (which included delightful custom popsicles) with everyone. Their beautiful choreographed First Dance, the meaningful gift Kayla gave Chris of the rosary beads she used while she was praying for her future husband, the cake cutting with Chris’ sword, the heartfelt toasts by the best man and maid of honor…these were just a few of the special moments throughout the day.

Chris and Kayla, God has clearly brought you together and your love for Him and others will be a beautiful tie that binds you together as you continue in life as husband and wife. Thank you for allowing me to witness this lovely moment in your lives! XO
